Mentor Feedback: Our mentor was Carolyn E. Ruttan, an Invasive Species Program Coordinator at Lake County Water Resources. We did not receive any mentor feedback, but she did receive our email.
Reflection:
For this project we were supposed to come up with a biotech solution to a world problem. My group and I chose to focus on the algae pollution problem in Clear Lake. First we came up with a vacuum/filter machine idea to get the algae out of the lake water. We then came up with a method to extract oil out of the algae to make useful biofuels. Part of this project was a brainstorming and researching aspect, and reaching out to a professional in our biotech project field, and trying to get feedback/guidance from them. Two things we did well were that we all got along and helped contribute to all different parts of the project, and that we all put in effort and research and had a good presentation poster and presented our topic well with a lot of information. Two things we could improve on is we could have done more research on the different types of algae and how the different oils would work as biofuel, and just focusing on the project the whole time and being on task with no distractions. Overall this project was very interesting and fun and we really got to use ur own imagination to research and find a solution for something that we feel passionate about.
