Purpose:
The purpose of these dissections and researching was to help us understand evolution better and the anatomy of other organisms closely related to us. We researched and dissected a sponge, jellyfish, squid, earthworm, fish, and frog. We were able to see there inside structures, how they evolved, and compare them to ourselves. I can now understand evolution better because we were able to look at how organisms have become more complex over time and adapted to environmental changes. We also watched videos (our inner fish and reptile) and were able to see evolution and how we are related to some animals we never would have imagined we were connected to.
What we did:
For each of the dissections, we were given packets with questions and instructions. We watched a dissection video tutorial to understand the steps and see parts of the animal we didn't not know. We then cut open the organism we had, followed the instructions, and observed the parts and recorded it. We then answered whatever questions we had, filled in our chart, and paragraphs.

Conclusion:
This was a very cool lab/experience because we got to look and touch real organisms and really see what we were learning about. I also really enjoyed the dissecting. Two things I think I did well was the paragraphs and dissecting. For the paragraphs, when I worked on them, I was able to focus well and type a lot of detail. I feel that because of this the paragraphs turned out very well. Another thing I think I did well was the dissecting. My partner and I always watched the videos before and carefully cut open the organism. We were able to see most of the parts all the time and stayed organized. A couple things I could have done better would be to stay focused more and observe everything under the microscope. I could have stayed focused more at times on only my work. I also could have observed more parts under the microscope to see them better. Some things I learned from this lab/unit is that out of all the organisms we dissected, we are most like the frog and least like the sponge or jellyfish. I also learned that there are many different species of the common earthworm and that giant squid are very aggressive and grab prey with their huge tentacles and drag it into their very sharp beak. Some things I would like to know are the lifespans of all these animals and their specific role in evolution. Overall I really enjoyed learning about evolution and getting to see it for myself.
